EPIPHONE
Epiphone guitars marry classic Gibson inspired styling with affordability. These “work horse” guitars are designed to provide years of playing enjoyment, while getting your foot in the door with the Gibson family of instruments.
Founded in 1923 by Epimanondas “Epi” Stathopoulo, Epiphone quickly established itself as a quality builder of instruments. Capitalizing on the rising popularity of Jazz in the early 1930s, Epiphone launched a series of widely popular guitars, and quickly became a direct competitor to Gibson. By the early 1960s Epiphone enjoyed a high level of popularity, riding the wave of rock n’ roll’s growing influence. Endorsements from the Beatles and other popular artists help cement the line’s reputation and public identity.
After acquiring the line 1958, Gibson decided to move production overseas in the early 1970s. Though suffering repeated sales slumped in the 1980s, Epiphone guitars were revitalized in the 1990s with help from the Brit Pop explosion and the popularity of bands like Oasis.
Today Epiphone offers a full range of guitars and basses modeled after classic Gibson and Epiphone models, while also offering some modern twists on classic designs.
